Loenkant Frihanov Pachel (뢴칸트 프리하노프 파헬, Roenkanteu Peurihanopeu Pahel) is one of the main antagonists of the series Abide in the Wind and is the enemy Reana Forté pursues after. He is the founder of the Kingdom of Earthside, making him its first and current king.
Appearance[]
Loenkant has blond hair that drapes past his shoulders. It appears that he has worn this hairstyle since he was young, although it is now slicked back. As king, he wears a crown and robes shaded with his kingdom's colors. He carries a scepter and wears a gold gauntlet on his right hand of which both seem to be Dragon Artifacts.
His three facial scars, which cross both his left eye and nose, are from an unknown attacker. He is 186cm tall with a thin build.
Personality[]
Loenkant seems unstable and unhealthy. In his first official appearance, it is made clear that he is infected by parasites. They drain his health thus he personally sends West Stravin to find the Dragon Pearl that will heal him. He does this because he thinks he has little time left before he loses his mind to the parasites.
He also seems slightly arrogant as he dismisses Reana's challenge of meeting in person rather than using people as puppets.
In the past, Loenkant was once a strong and charismatic king. He had held a good relationship as Riyenas to the dragon Munyak. As his health declined, he became more weak-willed and allowed others to be sacrificed in order for him to live. Although it is heavily hinted that Loenkant fell in love with the dragon, he now deeply regrets meeting Munyak and laments her "choosing" him in later chapters.
History[]
Loenkant creating a separate kingdom from the Jerat empire was deemed impossible before he and his cohorts discovered the underground labyrinth where Munyak hid herself. He then became her Riyenas and had his army use the cache of Dragon Artifacts from the labyrinth, thus won the war and officially declared independence.
When the kingdom was finally settled, he allowed the enslavement of the native Akoom people. Other forces, like the Imugi, did not challenge them. Loenkant and his main retainers stopped aging. As Riyenas, the country was ensured with an endless supply of power and weapons.
Things began to go awry when West Stravin, Loenkant's most loyal confidante, encouraged him to marry to have heirs. After marrying his first wife, Loenkant grew ill and his "power" began turning black. There was mutiny in the noble houses as people accused the king of experimenting on people to keep himself alive.
Plot[]
Prologue[]
When an unknown Contractor finally finds the 'last dragon' on the planet, he activates the Dragon Artifact Moonlight-Slicing Sword and tries to open the barrier protecting the dragon. When that fails, he activates another (box) Artifact containing Malevolence in it and successfully injures the dragon. The assailant continues using force in order to make the humanoid dragon hand over its Pearl.
Season 1 Episode 1: Riyenas[]
As the unknown Second-Class Dragon Knight tries to make an ultimatum to the humanoid dragon after heavily injuring it, the dragon suddenly reverts to his beast form and 'destroys' the invader's 'body' and flees. The unknown Contractor then takes control of another human, goes through the area's memory (using the box Artifact) and figures out that Reana Forté has become the dragon's Riyenas. He seeks her out to the town of Middle late in the evening and takes over the body of her father, Roy Forté.
After finally meeting and threatening her, Reana sends him to the Purification Chamber, demanding to meet in person in order to make a proper deal rather than using people. Unfortunately, the Purification Chamber causes Roy's body to disappear, thus the unknown assailant leaves Reana a message: "You will never understand the existence of a dragon" (as he himself couldn't).
The day after, it is revealed that the unknown Contractor is the kingdom's first and current king. He personally and secretly tells Stravin—his most trusted advisor—of a new Riyenas and orders him to find her at all costs.
Season 1 Episode: Stravin[]
As Stravin wonders whether his decisions for the kingdom were right, a young Loenkant is shown in a flashback holding Munyak in his arms.
Season 1 Episode 5: Hollan - Festival[]
It is shown that Loenkant has Munyak restrained and locked under confinement in a secret room underneath the royal palace. He visits her late one night, telling her he will soon marry for the sixth time and asks her why she has chosen and given him such a horrible fate.
Season 1 Episode 6: Hollan - Collapse[]
During a royal public address in the capital, Reihart uses the distraction to enter the hidden chamber and frees Munyak from the collar shackling her powers. She unleashes her dragon form ferociously and cause mayhem in the capital. The subjects around the king hurriedly have him hide into safety, however Munyak's shocking appearance makes Loenkant reminisce the past of when he first found her in the Labyrinth of Terreh, ignoring the pandemonium developing around him.
Season 2 Episode 7: Dorton[]

Season 2 Episode 8: Yusladipol Harbor[]With the majority of the country now under a ceaseless snowstorm, the whereabouts of the king is unknown. It is only affirmed in the beginning of the new year that Loenkant is still alive, now in the Wailing Canyons near The Great Plains. Season 2 Episode 9: Great Plains[]After Captain Lupenin attacks Reihart and the other Dragon Knights surround him, the prince finds Loenkant looking down on him atop a cliff; he flees before he gets caught. The king then has his son's 'fiancée', Reana, under confinement. When Loenkant decides to see Reana by sending her to his own tent, he is seen in bed with Munyak next to him. He notices that she is a Riyenas no more and draws a conclusion that going to the ends of the kingdom to bring her to the dragon is pointless. Before Reana can explain, her silver box activates and out emerges the negative personality of Munyak. Loenkant quickly destroys it and abruptly orders Reana's immediate execution by burning at the stake. |
Abilities[]
At the start of the series, he is an unknown Contractor using the Second-Class Dragon Artifact Moonlight-Slicing Sword (달빛을 가르는 검, Dalbicheul Gareuneun Geom). He uses another unknown Artifact in the shape of a box that controls Malevolence and allows the owner to take control of people's bodies thus taking over their identities. He constantly wears a Second-Class Dragon Knight uniform when hosting people's bodies in order to gain authority and information.
